Hocus Pocus Readathon TBR!

Hello everyone and happy October! I love this time of year. From the changing leaves to pumpkin everything and, of course, all the spooky and festive, seasonal reads.

For some added, spooky season fun, I’ve decided to take part in the Hocus Pocus readathon. I’ve participated in the past, but it’s been a few years, so I am super excited to be able to participate again. This year I am signing up to be on Team Sanderson Sisters! The readathon started October 1st, and I’m just late to posting this, but I’ve already started reading. 😂

So, here are the prompts for my team, and here are the books I plan to read this October!

1. Winifred wants to suck the life out of children to become immortal! Read a Halloween-themed middle-grade book.

For this prompt, I’ve chosen The Halloween Moon by Joseph Fink. I actually bought this book in the spring and I’ve been waiting for October to read it. So I am super excited to finally get to this one!

2. We must find Book, he is missing! Read a book where the characters go on an adventure.

I have a few different options for this prompt, but as of now, I’ve decided to go with I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me by Jamison Shea. This book is supposed to be a villain origin story featuring ballet and the Catacombs in Paris, France. I’m very intrigued and it sounds to be quite the scary adventure!

3. Mary only wants to impress her older sister by doing everything she asks! Read a book that features a sibling relationship in it.

I think How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix is the perfect book for this prompt. It features a brother and a sister who have to learn to work together to deal with their parent’s house – I’m also assuming said house will be haunted, lol. Grady Hendrix always writes the wildest books, so this will be a perfect one for October.

4. Since the witches have been dead for 300 years, they don’t know a lot about the modern world. Read a book set in the past/historical fiction.

Last year, I read Practical Magic and adored everything about it. This year, I’m going to read the prequel, The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. This one is about the aunts and their brother when they were younger. I cannot wait to start reading this one.

5. This is stressful! I suggest we form a calming circle! Read a book that is less than 300 pages.

For a short read, I chose The Wicked Unseen by Gigi Griffis. This book sounds super scary and creepy and it’s only 288 pages so I think it will be the perfect choice for this prompt!

6. I put a spell on you…and now you’re mine! Read a book with romance in it.

The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling is my choice for this prompt. It sounds so cute and romantic and festive. Plus, I really enjoyed reading The Ex Hex, so I’m sure this one will be just as enjoyable.

I, for one, am really looking forward to participating in this readathon all month long. I love the festive-ness of the ‘ber months and the spookiness of October.

Let me know if you’re participating in the Hocus Pocus Readathon, another readathon this month, or if you’re reading any festive/spooky books.

Thanks for reading!
