Hello! So, on Saturday, I participated in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon. It was sort of a last minute decision, so I wasn’t as organized with this one as Dewey’s readathon in April, and I had a few things to do that evening. That being said, I still read quite a bit, and I’m really happy with how the readathon went for me!
Reading Update
First, I read the last chapter in The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I had hoped to finish it on Friday, before the readathon, but that didn’t work out, and that was okay! I enjoyed the book, but I felt like the ending lacked something. I ended up giving it 3 stars.
Next, I read the last 165 pages, and finally finished Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle. While I really did love how atmospheric and mysterious this book was, I found myself a bit confused at times, and had trouble keeping all the characters straight. I will say, though, the ending really redeemed itself for me. I ended up also giving this one 3 stars.
Then, I read a chapter of Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I had been hoping to read a bit more than just one chapter, but I ended up getting busy.
Last, I read Regal Hearts episode 1 by Livy Jarmusch. This series has so much promise! It revolves around several different characters with very different lives. I’m really looking forward to seeing how all the stories intertwine with each other. I ended up giving this one 4 stars.

What I Thought
I’m not really sure what I was expecting when I decided to read Unraveling. It was on sale in the Nook store for a $1.99 and the summary seemed interesting enough, so I thought why not? Well, let me just say, while this book wasn’t horrible, I’m glad I only spent $1.99 on it.
Now, first off let me say, this book wasn’t necessarily bad. I think maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood to read it (I mean Christmas just ended so maybe death and end of the world stuff was just too intense after all the jolliness?) or maybe it just wasn’t the right book for me, but either way this book irritated me! I don’t know what it was about it but I just never felt fully connected into finding out how it was going to end until around the last 20 pages or so. I found myself skimming a little bit through different parts and just never felt emotionally connected. Then, the one thing I did want to get to know more about (Kate and Janelle’s friendship), was never really expanded upon, but there is a sequel so it’s probably explained in more depth there.
One last thing that bugged about this book was the language! I felt like there was so much cursing in it! They even used the F-bomb in front of their teachers in the middle of class! I feel like if that were to happen in real life that would not have been allowed. But what do I know? I was homeschooled. Maybe people do curse like that in school! 😛
Despite all that negativity, this book wasn’t all bad. There were some pretty great characters in Unraveling. I loved Alex, Struz, and Janelle’s awesome English teacher! I also felt like Kate’s character definitely had some potential, and I hope we get to know about her more in the sequel.
Another thing I actually loved about this book was Janelle and Ben’s relationship. So many times in these types of books, the love interests try to take over the whole story. Like, seriously? The world is ending and people are fighting and you two just met and now you feel the need to just randomly make out? Please..But that didn’t happened in Unraveling. They’re relationship progressed slowly and over time (no insta-love), and they always made sure to get their priorities straight most of the time. Their relationship was actually realistic, given the circumstances. So, thank you Elizabeth Norris!
Overall, Unraveling wasn’t the greatest book, but it wasn’t the worst either. I probably won’t ever reread it, and I do plan on reading the sequel but not anytime soon. Maybe in a few months, I’ll change my mind and decide I need to read it! I don’t feel like I wasted my time with this book, but I’m glad I got it at a discount, and I will probably just get the sequel from the library.

Hey everyone! This is super last minute, but I’ve decided to participate in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon! I’m sure a lot of you already know about this, but just in case you don’t, basically you read whatever you want, as much as you can, in 24 hours. Now, I know some people will spend literally all 24 hours reading, and if you are one of those people, I applaud you. That is so great! I am not one of those people, however. I actually have quite a few things I have to do tomorrow, so I admit, I don’t know how much reading I’m going to get done. In fact, because of that, I almost didn’t participate. That being said, I’ve decided to just go for it! I’ll read as much as I can, and no matter the amount, it’ll be great. 🙂
Also, I’m currently in the middle of the #HalloweenWR readathon. I’ve decided to read some additional books not related to that readathon to this readathon, though. Am I making sense anymore? lol Basically, I want to use this readathon to read all the books that I started before or that don’t fit with the Halloween Readathon.
Okay, on to the TBR!
First, I want to read any amount of Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, I’m still reading it. I really have enjoyed it, though, I just haven’t read this book in the past few weeks because I’ve been getting into those Halloween/spooky vibes. That’s why I think Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is the perfect chance to give me a break from reading about ghosties and instead, see what Scarlett and Rhett are up to.
Next, I want to finally finish Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle. I started this book in the very beginning of October, and it sounded so mysterious and atmospheric, and I was so pumped to read it. That being said, the beginning was a little confusing for me, and this book, while beautifully written, is slower paced, and so I ended up putting it aside to read other things. I have about 100 pages left, but I really do want to finish it though, and I think Dewey’s Readathon is the push I need.
Lastly, I would really like to read at least episode 1 of Regal Hearts by Livy Jarmusch. I’m going to actually be participating in a blog tour in celebration of season 1 of Regal Hearts being released in paperback, later in November. So, I’m super excited to start this creative, episodic, book series!
That’s all I’ve got planned for my TBR! I may decide to read something else, but we will see. Regardless, I’m looking forward to reading as much as I can tomorrow.

The Nancy Drew Series
Honestly, any Nancy Drew book works for this Top Ten Tuesday. These books are always filled with Nancy and her friends’ meals and they will make you hungry every time. From tasty snacks to full, three course meals, Nancy Drew books have them all!
Plus, Nancy’s friend, Bess, is a girl after my own heart, because we are both always starving!
Bittersweet
This book will make you so hungry for cupcakes it’s not even funny! Also, I love how in the beginning of each chapter, it features a different cupcake.
The actual story in Bittersweet is A+ too!
The Sweet Seasons Series
This series is so cute! It’s about this girl named Candace, who works at an amusement part selling candy. There’s a book for each season, and they all involve a different candy.
I love the cover designs, too!
Divergent
I don’t talk about Divergent a lot a lot, but back in the day, this series was one of my favorites! Besides from being a great story, this book also has a quite a bit of food talk in it. Each faction has its own specialty food that they’re known for. I think we can all agree though, that Dauntless’ chocolate cake is the first one that comes to mind!
Peaches
Peaches is such a fun, summer read! Not only that, but there will never be a time that you are craving peaches more than while reading this book. Honestly, I went out and bought peaches because of this book. This sounds so dramatic, lol, but at the time, I hadn’t eaten peaches in literally years, but this book made me so hungry for them that I went out and bought some.
And, just so you know, the peaches I bought were delicious. 👌
Chasing Jupiter
If Peaches makes you hungry for peaches, then Chasing Jupiter is going to make you hungry for peach pie like nobody’s business! This book may be short, but it has a lot of heart. The main character, Scarlett, is a great cook, so there’s a few more dishes than just peach pie, too.
Saint Anything
Not only is this one of my favorite Sarah Dessen novels, it’s also the book, by her, that makes me the hungriest. From lollipops, to french fries, to pizza, this book will have your stomach growling!
Since You’ve Been Gone
Just by looking at the cover, I think you already know what this book makes me hungry for: ice cream! Since You’ve Been Gone is the perfect summer read (all of Morgan Matson’s books are), and it made me so hungry for ice cream. The main girl, Emily, gets a job at an ice cream shop, and that is just the tip of this super cute, super fun book!
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Honestly, I don’t know if this book makes me hungry, or cautions me to eat less, lol. Either way, there’s a lot of food in this book. From mysterious bottles and cookies that make her grow and shrink, completely mad tea parties, to someone stealing the Queen’s tarts, there’s quite a bit of eating and talking about eating in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland!
The A Tea Shop Mystery Series
The A Tea Shop Mystery series is filled with tasty teas and scrumptious treats! I admit, I haven’t read this series yet, but my grandma has, and she gave me this series because she knows how much I love mysteries and tea. These books seem like the perfect, cozy read, and I’m looking forward to reading through this series on a chilly day with a blanket and, of course, a tasty cup of tea! 😋

What I Thought
When Sarah Dessen announced she was writing a new book, I was so excited! She is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely adore Sarah Dessen’s novels, and I am so happy to say it was no different for Once and for All!
Like all of Sarah Dessen’s books, the characters were so phenomenal. Louna was a very likable character for me, and I thought Ambrose, while definitely not perfect, was so sweet. I really loved watching the relationship grow. Jilly, Louna’s best friend was also such a great character. She was very confident, and a great and supportive best friend. I also want to say that while her family wasn’t in the story a whole lot, I really loved the positive portrayal of Jilly’s parents. They were very happily married, and loved all their kids, and that is something that really isn’t shown in YA enough, in my opinion. Personally, I would love to read a whole book about Jilly and her family and their food truck!
This story is a little heavy at times. It deals with loss and tragedy, and the flashbacks really broke my heart. While there is romance in this book, I feel like the real story is about Louna’s growth and learning to let others in.
Honestly, I thought the whole wedding planning theme was so much fun. I’m so glad I’m not a wedding planner though because, whew, they are such hard workers!! Another thing I found super fun was all the references from Sarah Dessen’s past books! I love little things like that, and it gave us a tiny glimpse into seeing how everyone is doing.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was fun and light-hearted at times, but it also had its quite emotional moments. I loved the characters and the romance as well. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a good, contemporary novel.

GUYS! I’m so excited Wonderless Reviews is hosting another Halloween readathon this year, and I am pumped! I had so much fun participating last year, and I know I’m going to love it this year, too. Plus, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump these past few weeks, and I think a readathon is just the thing I need to bring me out of it. So, today, I’m going to share with you all my tentative TBR! Okay, now onto the challenges that I’m basing my TBR around:
For this one, I’m going with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. I think all the covers for this series are super creepy looking! Plus, I really love the Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show, and while I realize this is going to be a very different thing, I’m quite curious to see how it goes. Also, I’ve never really read any graphic novels or comics before, so I think it might be fun to try a new reading format!
I’ve decided to go with The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I wanted to read this book last year for Halloween, but I ran out of time, so I decided to save it for this year. I’m really hoping I can get to it this October!
This book looks super cheesy, but I think The Curse by Connie Laux is going to make a perfect Halloween book. This is one of the books I picked up at my library’s book sale last month, and it gave me R. L. Stine vibes, so I thought it would be perfect to read for Halloween.
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury is another book I intended to read last Halloween, but didn’t get around to. This one is quite short, and I can see myself cozy in my room with my Halloween decorations and lights on my bookcase glowing, while I’m reading this book in bed. Blustering winds preferred, but not required.
Does Halloweentown count? 😂 I definitely plan on watching a spooky, scary movie for Halloween, but I haven’t decided which one. I also know I’ll be watching all the ones from the Disney Channel, but those aren’t exactly scary, so I’m not sure if I’ll count any of those or not. I know The Haunting of Hill House has a movie adaptation, so maybe I’ll watch that? We shall see!
I’m going to go with the treat option, and read The Simplicity of Cider by Amy Reichert. This book seems like it still has that autumnal vibe, but it’s not spooky or scary. I think something lighthearted like this one will be perfect to read at about the halfway point of the readathon!
For my last two books, I’m going to read either The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Braken, How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather, and/or Slasher Girls and Monster Boys edited by April Tucholke. I’ve been hearing so many good things about Prosper Redding, and I heard it actually takes place during Halloween time, which is so fun! Then, I picked up How to Hang a Witch at my library’s book sale, and I’ve heard it’s such a mysterious and spooky book. Also, I started Slasher Girls and Monster Boys last Halloween, but I only read 3 or 4 of the short stories in the collection, and so I’d really like to finish that this year as well.
There’s my TBR! I really don’t expect to get everything read, but it sure would be nice if I did.

When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
What I Thought
Hopeless is the second Colleen Hoover book that I’ve read. The first one was Maybe Someday, and you can check out my review for that one here, and while it was good, I didn’t love it. Because of that I was a bit more tentative going into this book. There were parts I loved about Hopeless, and other parts that, quite frankly, I didn’t like at all.
Okay, I don’t want to be super negative, so I’ll get what I disliked out of the way first. Honestly, I didn’t like Holder – especially in the beginning of the novel. Keeping it spoiler free, he comes off as incredibly creepy and controlling. In the beginning of Sky and Holder’s relationships, all sorts of red flags were going off in my head about him, and it bothered me how those issues were never truly addressed. Holder was just written off as “passionate.” Umm…no thank you. Call it whatever you want, but I’m going to tell you it was abusive. I almost didn’t finish this book because of him. His character does flip about halfway through the book, and he no longer comes across as abusive, but his behavior in the beginning of the book really turned me off of his character, and quite frankly, part of the story.
That being said, I’m glad I did stick around to read the end! The rest of the characters are quite interesting. I really did like Sky and her best friend. I wish Six, her friend, had been in the story more.
Also, this book had so many plot twists and unexpectedness that I was fly through the pages after the halfway point. My emotions were all over the place while reading it!
Just a head’s up though, this book is very intense! There are a lot of heavy topics in this book, and honestly, it was almost too much for me to read at time. Don’t go into this book expecting something romantic and fun. No, the whole book isn’t heavy, but when it is, it really is.
Overall, this is another Colleen Hoover book that I liked, but didn’t love. The ending of this book really redeemed the entire story for me, but I don’t like romance books where I don’t like the love interest, and I didn’t like Holder. I wish I liked her books more, but I don’t think I’m on the Colleen Hoover train just yet. I think if you’re a fan of romance novels, but are looking for more depth, and don’t mind some heavy themes, then Hopeless is definitely the book for you!

Hello! Today, I’m wrapping up my reading and blogging for both the months of August and September. I don’t know what I’ve been doing, but I will tell you, that I haven’t been reading very much. In August, I didn’t buy anything, so that was good…but then September happened…
First, I bought One of Us is Lying. I’ve heard good things about this book, and it was on sale at Target, so I couldn’t resist.

Sounds like not too many, right? Well, then my library had a book sale, and I. Went. Crazy!
I bought 33 books while I was there! Some of the books I’m most excited to read are Trouble is Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly, Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway, A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron, Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella, Where I Belong by Krista McGee, and Beartown by Fredrick Backman. Obviously, I’m super excited for all the books, but I’m just not going to write out every single book I got.

I read Replica way back in January, and I loved it! It’s been one of the best books I’ve read so far this year, and I am just so excited for the sequel to be released, and see how things end!! This series is just so intriguing, and set up in such a unique format. Lauren Oliver’s writing never disappoints, and I’m sure this book will be no different.
