Mid-Year Book Freak Out!

Mid-Year Book F.png

Hey everyone! Today I’m going to be doing the Mid-Year Book “Freak Out” tag!  I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I’ve seen this tag floating around for the past few weeks, and I thought it seemed super fun.  So, here we go!

1. Best Book You’ve Read In 2017, So Far?

I’ve read 23 books so far this year, and while that number may not be as large as I would like, I can honestly say I haven’t read a single book that I did not like!  Because of that, there’s no way I could narrow this down to one book, so my top favorite 3 of this year are Holes by Louis Sachar, Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, and Replica by Lauren Oliver.Untitled design (1).png

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far?

That would definitely have to be book 3 in the Angel Eyes trilogy, Dark Halo by Shannon Dittemore.  It was the final book in the series, and while all the books in this series were incredible, the ending for this one was absolutely perfect!

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

I have two for this one!  One new release that I already have that I want to read and haven’t yet is Once and For All by Sarah Dessen.  I love all her books, so I know I’ll love this one soon, and hope to have it read sometime this summer!

This next new release is one I don’t have, but I still can’t wait to get it and read it, and that is When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon.  I’ve been hearing so many good things about this book!

4. Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of 2017?

That would definitely have to be Ringer by Lauren Oliver!  It’s the sequel to Replica, and I am so excited for this book to come out and see how this story ends!

5. Biggest Disappointment?

This is actually a really hard question for me, because like I said earlier, I have really enjoyed all the books I’ve read this year.  I’d probably have to go with Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire, though.  Don’t get me wrong, this was an enjoyable book, but I’ve heard so much hype surrounding how wonderful this book was, and it just didn’t live up to the hype for me.  It was good but not great, and based on what so many other said about this book, I was expecting great.

6. Best Surprise?

For best surprise, I’m going to have to go with The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott by Kelly O’Connor McNees.  I honestly was not expecting much from this book, and it completely blew me away.  It was so well written, and just all-around way better than I expected!

7. Favorite New Author?

My favorite new-to-me author would definitely be Shannon Dittemore. Her Angel Eyes trilogy was just so good, and I can’t wait for her to write more books, so I can read them!

8. Newest Fictional Crush

I’m beginning to feel like a broken record, because this is the third time I’ve mentioned her/her books in this post, but honestly, Jake from Angel Eyes is just so swoon-worthy, and this series was just so good!  😍

9. New Favorite Character?

There’s no way I could pick just one!  I’ve loved so many book characters this year, I really don’t know if I could narrow it down. 😘

10. Books That Made You Cry?

Oh boy!  A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and Chasing Jupiter by Rachel Coker were both so, so good, and yet such tearjerkers!

11. Books That Made You Happy?

Holes by Louis Sachar was so good and brought back so many memories for me.  This was the first time I had read the book, but I’ve seen the movie several times, and it was one of my favorites growing up.  Plus, I was so happy I finally got around to reading Holes, and that it did not disappoint!

12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation?

😏 Based off my last response, I think it is exactly 0% surprising that my favorite book to movie adaptation is Holes.  Y’all. The movie and the book are both amazing!

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written?

I really like this question!  It made me look back at my old reviews, which is actually something I don’t do enough.  Anyway, while I’m not sure if this one is necessarily my favorite review written in 2017, I really enjoyed writing my review for Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven.   You can check it out here!

14. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year?

This one is a no-brainer for me!  While I didn’t buy it, my wonderful mom recently bought me the absolutely gorgeous Puffin in Bloom collection, and oh my goodness, these books are just so deliciously good looking! 😍

15. What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

ALL OF THEM!  Haha, but in all seriousness, there are so many books I want to read by the end of the year, I really don’t know which ones to list.  So, I’ll just say I want to get to the books that I already own.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this, because I had a lot of fun writing it!

Also, I have a new goal of posting a tag like this once a week on the blog from now on.  I’ve been tagged by so many lovely bloggers for so many different tags, and I’m absolutely horrible at getting to them (I have a tag I’ve been meaning to do for literally over a year).  So, look forward to more posts like these from me!

Thanks so much for reading, and if you haven’t yet, I encourage you to do the Mid-Year Book “Freak Out” tag as well!

  1. I read the first book in the Angel Eyes series, and while I had a few issues with it I definitely enjoyed it – I should pick up the sequels!

The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott sounds interesting – the title alone intrigues me lol.

I’ve been wanting to read A Monster Calls!! But I AM expecting to cry, so I suppose I’ll have to be in a specific mood. (“Do I feel like sobbing today? Yes? Okay, great.”)

I don’t know if you saw it, but I tagged you in the Sunshine Blogging Award! Here’s the link:

(I think the link will work? If not, the post is only a few back on my blog. You don’t have to do it, of course, but I thought I’d let you know!)

    Great post!! – Abi

    • The Angel Eyes series continues to get better with each book. You should definitely give the sequels a chance!

Yes, I loved the title for The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott, too. If you’re a fan of Little Women, you should definitely check out this book. ☺️

Oh yes, haha I put off reading A Monster Calls for so long because I had to wait until I felt like crying. 😜

Thank you so much for tagging me in The Sunshind Blogger Award! I did miss that post, so I’m so glad you brought it to my attention. I’ll be sure to do it soon! 😄

      Thank you! 💕
