October Update!

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through October! October is always one of my favorite months. From the changing leaves to the cozy clothing to the spooky books, there’s so much to love! The fall months also always remind me of change and new beginnings.

This also had me thinking about my blog. I’ve been kind of quiet on here this summer but I thought I’d update you all on how I’ve been and what to look forward to! ☺️

Summer 2021 was a really good time! I graduated from college with my bachelors degree in May, and spent the majority of my summer nannying for a great family, and spending all my free time reading at the pool. I also went on a beach trip with my family in August. It was such an amazing time!

Some of my favorite books that I read this summer were:

  • The Shadow and Bone series
    • I finally get the hype for this series!🎉
  • People We Meet on Vacation
    • The cutest book!!
  • Malibu Rising
    • The queen, Taylor Jenkins Reid, has done it again 👑👑
  • Serious Moonlight
    • I loved all the Nancy Drew references 😍
  • Instructions for Dancing
    • So different than Nicola Yoon’s other books but just as good!

Now fall is here and that is bringing all new sorts of adventures!

I’m planning to pursue an MLIS in library science. I want to start next fall, so in the meantime, I’m saving money, researching, and looking at all the next steps!

The weather has been beautiful in Ohio this fall. So, I’ve been going on a ton of hikes and spending as much time as I can enjoying the fresh air! I’m planning to go to a pumpkin patch this weekend or the next, so I’m looking forward to carving pumpkins super soon, too. 🎃

Now, on to a sad bit of news. My sweet Cali, the calico cat who inspired the name, The Calico Books, passed away a couple weeks ago. She was old and had health problems, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected, but it’s definitely been a hard adjustment. That’s part of the reason I haven’t been as active on here as I planned. She is greatly missed. ❤️

Getting back into the topic of books, I have been in quite the reading slump. 😅 I’m finally starting to climb out of it, though, and I’m hopeful the second half of October will be better than the first.

So far, I’ve only read The Nature of Witches, but oh my goodness, it was a good one!! I’ll be writing a review for it soon, but just know it was a five star read for me! 🤩

I’m currently in the middle of several books.

  • I’ve been listening to Slasher Girls and Monster Boys while I crochet, and it is so spooky and entertaining!
  • Then, I just started There’s Someone in Your House by Stephanie Perkins and it is shaping up to be a really great read. I’m also planning to watch the movie on Netflix after I’m done!
  • The poetry collection, How to Love the World by James Crews, has also been on my nightstand and it has been so beautiful to read a poem or two each day.

Going into the second half of October, there is a lot I want to read, watch, and do!

Earlier this month, I posted a TikTok of my October tbr, and as you can tell, I have a ways to go!

I’ve also since added The Ex Hex to my tbr after all the peer pressure on bookstagram to read it. 😂

Being it’s spooky season, I’m also planning to get some festive movies in as well!

I, of course, want to watch the classics, like Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus. I also want to watch Practical Magic, because I feel like I’m the only person who hasn’t seen that movie yet. 😂

I also am planning to get some creepy movies in too, like Crimson Peak and A Quiet Place. If you have any more recs, let me know!

I think that’s everything for today’s post. If you read all this, thanks so much. I really appreciate it. 😂

Let me know in the comments how you have all been and tell me something you’re looking forward to this fall!

Thanks for reading!
