Hey everyone! To celebrate the recent release of Tied to Deceit by debut novelist, Neena H. Brar, I’m reviewing the book for my stop on the blog tour!
Title: Tied to Deceit by Neena H. Brar
Published by: Penguide (Aug. 4th, 2018)
On a drizzly August morning, the inhabitants of the hill town of Sanover, Himachal Pradesh, wake up to the shocking news of the murder of the exquisite, secretive, malicious, and thoroughly immoral Devika Singh.
As Superintendent of Police Vishwanath Sharma begins to sift through the hidden secrets of Devika Singh’s life, it becomes evident that everyone who knew her seems to have a clear-cut motive for killing her.
Faced with the investigation of a crime that appears to have as many suspects as there are motives, Vishwanath Sharma probes the sinister web spun around a tangle of lies and deception.
Praise for Tied to Deceit:
“A remarkable whodunit that’s as sharp as it is concise.
Brar enhances her taut murder mystery with an engaging setting that effectively incorporates the local culture. The smart, believable denouement will have readers looking forward to Brar’s next endeavor.”
“A literary mystery saga that includes far more depth and psychological and cultural insights than your typical murder mystery’s scenario.”

What I Thought
When I first read the synopsis for Tied to Deceit, I was instantly intrigued! I love a good mystery, and this one looked like it would not disappoint.
Tied to Deceit was such a contemplative and complex novel. The mystery was so well done and kept me guessing until the very end! With such an unlikeable murder victim, there were so many possible suspects, each with a compelling and possible motive.
I will admit, because there were so many characters, I struggled to keep everyone straight, especially in the beginning of the novel. Despite that, I was able to keep track of who was who for all the main characters, and eventually all the side characters, as well.
Tied to Deceit was also filled with such beautiful, descriptive writing. I felt like I was actually in India while reading this book! I also really appreciated the glossary of Indian and Hindu terms in the back. It really helped clear things up for me.
This book is about so much more than just a mystery. It is about the complexities of human nature and how one action can change so many things.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. While Tied to Deceit isn’t one of those non-stop action, whodunnits, it is thoughtful, rational, and complicated. I loved trying to figure out who the murderer was, and at times, I felt like I was working right alongside Sharma to solve the case. I would recommend this book to any mystery fan!

Awesome! Yes, the descriptions were very immersive, but I did have a little trouble keeping track of everyone. Thank you! ☺️
